Donald Trump announces 80,000 JFK files to be released as ‘all will be revealed’ | World | News

US President Donald Trump has announced that as many as 80,000 unredacted files on the assassination of John F Kennedy (JFK) will be released tomorrow. JFK, the 35th president of the United States, was assassinated in 1963 in Texas when Lee Harvey Oswald shot him as his motorcade passed near a schoolbook depositary store. The case has intrigued the general public for years, with the nature of the killing and the assassination of Oswald two days later fuelling conspiracy theories for decades regarding the circumstances of the president’s demise.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “We are giving all of the Kennedy files tomorrow. So people have been waiting for decades for this and I have instructed my people that are responsible, but together by Tulsi Gabbard.”
Authorities said that Oswald acted alone, although polls suggest that most Americans do not believe this to be the case.
Theories have ranged from a CIA plot to oust the popular Democrat president to a hit by the KGB at the height of the Cold War.
Other theories have pointed the finger of blame at the mafia, his successor Lyndon Johnson and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, to name but a few.
JFK was a popular figure across the United States and symbolised much of the promise of a country a generation removed from the horrors of the Second World War.
The young, charismatic leader was popular amongst Hollywood’s elite and had been praised for his handling of crises including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the resurgence of the American economy.
JFK became the fourth sitting US president to be assassinated whilst in office.
Ronald Reagan survived an attempt on his life in 1981 while Donald Trump became the second former president to survive an attempted assassination when he was shot at last year.
Trump promised that the files would be released while campaigning along with a swathe of files on incidents that have led to similar levels of conspiracy and intrigue.
Speaking in January, the newly returned US President told reporters at the Oval Office: “A lot of people are waiting for this for long, for years, for decades.
“And everything will be revealed.”
