Sergio Perez Departs From Red Bull Racing!

Sergio Perez, the ‘Mexican Minister of Defence, ‘ was renowned for team effort in his early years in Red Bull. Now dropped from Red Bull Racing. This has created a void to be filled for the 2025 season and who the second driver will be alongside Max Verstappen. But not just one but two drivers have been rumoured to fill the potential vacuum looming ever closer for the 2025 season.
But who are the two drivers? They are waiting in the wings at Red Bull’s sister team, RB. Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson.
However, only one seat could open up at Red Bull. It’s down to the question of who will Red Bull choose. Let’s find out more…
Yuki Tsunoda – Best Chance for Red Bull
Yuki Tsunoda, a young Japanese driver from Sagamihara, Kanagawa, has been selected as the top partner for Max Verstappen.
Since his Formula 1 debut in 2021, Tsunoda has been waiting for his chance to be promoted from the B team (RB) to the A team (Red Bull).
Now, that opportunity is drawing closer as the number 22 driver got the chance to drive the RB20 in the post-season test.
Planet F1 highlighted Tsunoda’s feedback while speaking at a Honda event, stating:
“This came not only from the trackside engineers but also from the engineers supporting remotely from Red Bull’s factory in Milton Keynes. They mentioned how impressed they were with my input.”
90 races to his name, 91 points tallied up, and his best finish was 4th place. After four seasons, Tsunoda has now understood what being in a top-tier team feels like.
A driver hungry to prove himself for so long after waiting four seasons may get his opportunity to challenge further up the grid.
But another driver stands in the way of a 100% guaranteed seat, which is Liam Lawson.
Liam Lawson – An Impressive Substitute
The New Zealand driver has not had an entire season to showcase his potential. But that has not stopped Liam Lawson from showcasing his potential.
After RB decided to drop Daniel Ricciardo, they made a call to bring in their super sub once again.
From the United States Grand Prix to the finale in Abu Dhabi, the 22-year-old driver scored four points for RB. Compared to his Japanese team, between those six races who scored eight points.
Planet F1 also spoke to Red Bull’s CEO and Team Principal, Christian Horner, who scrutinises Lawson’s performance, stating:
“If you analyse what he’s done, in the time that he’s had and the race pace that he’s had, I think he’s done a good job.”
Yuki Tsunoda or Liam Lawson?
A driver who has been waiting for years for the opportunity versus a driver who substitutes for the B-Team are now two difficult decisions for Red BullA.
One driver will sign the dotted line for Red Bull, and one will sign the dotted line for RB.
So, for Red Bull to become successful as a constructor, it has made a tough decision for the team’s future.
With Sergio Perez now dismissed, the opportunity has opened up for younger and hungrier drivers like Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson to showcase their potential.
