Man infected with measles boarded Amtrak originating from Boston

A man tested positive for measles after traveling on an Amtrak train originating from Boston’s South Station to Washington D.C., according to officials.
The man boarded the Amtrak Northeast Regional 175 Train Southbound at Penn Station in New York around 7:30 p.m. on March 19, according to the D.C. Department of Health. He arrived at Union Station in D.C. around 1:30 a.m. the next day.
The man arrived at MedStar Health Urgent Care at Adams Morgan three days later on the evening of March 22 and tested positive for measles, according to the department.
There are 378 confirmed measles cases in 2025 so far, according to data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention last updated on March 21. This figure has already surpassed the 285 total cases reported in 2024.
There are no reported cases in Massachusetts, according to the CDC.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that transmits through the air via breath, coughs, or sneezes from an infected person. The D.C. Department of Health advises those who may have been exposed and are not immune to contact their health care provider or call the department at 844-493-2652.
