Sometimes, all your skin needs is some much-needed relief! Especially in winter, when cold weather, heating, and wind wreak havoc on a weakened skin barrier.  You know those times when your skin feels extra dry, flaky, red, and simply exhausted? That’s when you need to put aside your favorite active ingredients and soothe your skin with dermatologist-approved remedies, like Cetaphil’s Pro Face Wash for Sensitive & Redness Prone Skin. Let’s take a closer look at this skin champion and find out if this product is a worthy addition to your winter skincare routine.

About Cetaphil Pro Redness Prone Skin Cleansing Facial Wash

What does Cetaphil claim?

Face wash cleanses sebum, dirt, and makeup without making your skin dry or clogging the pores. Its gentle, calming formulation is perfect for sensitive, rosacea and redness-prone skin. The fragrance-free, non-comedogenic formula is suitable for daily use. It claims to relieve five skin sensitivity signs: dryness, irritation, roughness, tightness, and a weakened skin barrier.

You can purchase Cetaphil Redness Relieving Foaming Face Wash via the Amazon store here at approximately $15 (236 ml /8 Oz).

Let’s begin our analysis with the packaging. This foaming face wash comes in a white plastic bottle with a pump dispenser, often featuring a clear overcap. The pump allows for easy dispensing of the desired amount of foam: a half-press can dispense a smaller amount for a quick rinse.

The packaging design is clean and minimalist, reflecting the brand’s focus on gentle and effective skincare. It can vary slightly, depending on the country you are in, but the general ideas and ingredient list stay the same: it has a clinical or medical aesthetic, rather than a typical drugstore skincare appearance.

The texture and color are pure heaven. Foam is thin and airy, slightly runny, Such a delicate texture makes it easy to spread, lather on the skin and rinse it off. It doesn’t feel too soapy or thick on the skin, it is just perfect for a quick, gentle routine.

Cetaphil’s Redness Relieving Foaming Face Wash is unscented, therefore it doesn’t cause any unwanted irritation on sensitive skin.

Now let’s check out the ingredients. This is my favorite part of skincare research. So, the foam face wash is filled with those chilling, soothing ingredients. First of all, it is Glycerin. You won’t find any better and any more affordable ingredient, than glycerin, It is like honey for a sore throat, glycerin helps the skin to retain moisture: makes it heal faster, and repairs the skin’s natural barrier. It is always a great idea to have glycerin in your first-aid skincare kit.

Another magic ingredient for sensitive, red skin – allantoin. Just like hyaluronic acid, it is a naturally occurring compound produced by our own skin, so nothing foreign here! Allantoin is a powerful humectant that not only retains water but also helps to “resurface” it from the depths.

Finally, the formula contains caffeine.  This ingredient not only soothes and moisturizes the skin but also refreshes it and provides antioxidant benefits.

How to Use:

To use Cetaphil Pro Face Wash for Sensitive & Redness Prone Skin, begin by wetting your face with lukewarm water. Dispense a small amount of the face wash into your hand or onto a soft washcloth. Gently massage the cleanser onto your face in a circular motion, avoiding the delicate eye area.  Continue massaging for about 20-30 seconds to ensure thorough cleansing.

Rinse the skin with water to remove all traces of the foam. Pat your skin with a paper towel and follow with a gentle, yet effective moisturizer. I like using rosehip oil or shea butter on the days when my skin can’t handle active ingredients.

My Experience with Cetaphil Pro Face Wash

So, as I’ve already stated above, I got the Pro Face Wash for Sensitive & Redness Prone Skin by Cetaphil for my damaged skin barrier. As it turns on, Vitamin C, Retinol, and the red light face lift device don’t match, who could’ve known… But, what really helped me to revive my skin and put the redness back under control was this face wash. Most daily washes include fragrances and acids that don’t mix with a damaged skin barrier, therefore I needed something lightweight, something that will remove dead skin cells and makeup without stripping the skin any further.

And Cetaphil was the answer. I now use it on those in-between days when I don’t want to subject my skin to harsh AHA and BHA exfoliants but still want a refreshed and hydrated feeling. It does the job well without causing breakouts. However, if you are prone to blackheads and sebaceous filaments, this cleanser may not be sufficient for their removal.

The con for me is the overly gentle formula, which doesn’t effectively address my prominent sebaceous filaments. However, those problem areas can be treated separately.

Final Verdict…

The best advice on how to deal with damaged skin barrier was given by dermatologist Andrea Suarez: “Set aside the vast majority of your skincare product, and just keep the thing super simple! Mild cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen.” Simplicity is the secret. So, that`s what I do, when my skin feels under the weather. The Cetaphil`s Pro Face Wash is my number one thing for days like this.

So, for the price, it seems like a great option. My combination skin seems to like it a lot. The soothing, fine texture and fragrance-free formula, combined with its calming properties, might work for you as well.  Any other skin concerns can be addressed with targeted treatments. Additionally, the formula is vegan, non-irritating, and free of soap, so those of you, who are extra careful about your skincare choices will be glad with the composition.
