Why You’ll Love this Recipe
What’s the secret, you ask? Well, the secret’s in the cheese!
- So easy to make.
- Serves a crowd – it makes a large amount!
- Keeps well – it’s actually better on the second day!
- Most veggie dip recipes don’t have cheese, and if they do it’s simply a cream cheese base. This recipe focuses on a fresh grated mozzarella, and it makes all the difference!
- This vegetable dip recipe is easily adaptable with a variety of seasoning options.
Shopping List
copy and paste to add ingredients to your grocery list
- Sour Cream
- Mayonnaise
- Parmesan Cheese
- Mozzarella
- White Granulated Sugar (optional teaspoon)
- Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute (or any garlic and onion seasoning blend)

Substitutions and Variations
- Sour Cream – You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt to increase protein while reducing calories and saturated fat.
- Mayonnaise – I like to use Olive Oil Mayonnaise, but anything you have on hand will do!
- Seasoning – This dip is so flexible with the seasoning, make it your own by adding a little hot sauce or lemon juice. Don’t like parsley? Dill weed works well here too. See below for some more of our favorite variations of the seasoning options here.
- Fresh Herbs – You can use fresh herbs or a few green onions in place of the dry herbs to really take it up a notch. Just triple the dried seasoning measurement and taste test.
- Fresh Parmesan and Mozzarella – Fresh grated mozzarella makes this vegetable dip stand above the rest! Learn how to grate cheese, because it truly makes a difference to use fresh grated in this recipe.
- Sugar – Optional. Simply eliminate the sugar in this recipe, and it becomes a very low-carb appetizer!
Seasoning Suggestions
The seasoning in this ready to serve dip is flexible. As written, we use a teaspoon of Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute (in addition to some onion flakes and garlic powder), but you can use any of your favorite seasoning blends. Remember some store-bought seasoning blends start with salt, making adding any additional salt unnecessary.

Tips From My Test Kitchen
- Freshly Shred Cheese – If possible, I strongly encourage you to shred your cheese freshly. Blocks of cheese tend to be higher quality and have fewer preservatives, making them so much creamier.
- Marinate – Allow this dip to rest in the fridge for up to 24 hours for the best flavor, but it can be served immediately.
- Serve – in a cabbage bowl, as shown below! Simply carve out the interior of a large head of cabbage for a gorgeous display.
Serving Suggestions
- red peppers
- snap peas
- bell peppers
- cauliflower
- carrots
- celery
- broccoli
- cherry tomatoes
- crackers
