Grant money to help Pa. artists struggling financially due to the pandemic

Local working artists or arts and culture professionals who have suffered financial losses due to COVID can be eligible for a $3,000 grant payment through a new round of applications.
The COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program (PACR) was created with federal American Rescue Plan Act funds. It has provided grant support to nonprofit arts and culture organizations, local arts and culture districts and arts and culture professionals in Pennsylvania over the last few years.
The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is this year’s regranting partner for PACR. This year’s round will award 150 grants to eligible recipients in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks and Chester counties.
The funds will be provided as a one-time, unrestricted emergency relief grant, with no reporting requirements.
In a press release, GPCA President and CEO Patricia Wilson Aden said this grant will serve as a “critical lifeline” for artists.
“The pandemic has had a deep and long-lasting impact on our creative sector, not only due to the immediate closures of 2020, but also long-term shifts in consumer behavior,” she said.
There are five basic eligibility requirements to be considered:
- Age – Applicants must be 18 years of age or older when applying
- County of Residence – Applicants must currently reside in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks and Chester counties.
- Length of Residency – Applicants must have been a resident of Pennsylvania for at least 12 months.
- Arts and Culture Professional – Applicants must be a working arts or culture professional.
- Primary source of income – Applicants’ work as an artist or arts and culture professional must constitute at least 51% of their income.
In addition to meeting these eligibility requirements, applicants must provide supporting documentation.
Applicants will be asked to include things such as a resume/CV with work history, tax returns that show a loss of income during the pandemic, and additional documents demonstrating income disruptions (such as emails showing cancelled events, voided contracts or furlough letters).
The application for these grants will open on Monday, Feb. 24, and will close on Friday, March 21. The review process will begin at the end of March, with award announcements in late May and fund distribution in June.
