Flyers’ loss bumps Bruins down to fifth worst record

The Bruins did not get any help from the Philadelphia Flyers, whose loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday pushed them ahead of the B’s in the draft lottery sweepstakes.

The B’s wound up with the fifth worst record while the Flyers jumped them into the fourth slot. The B’s could have secured the fourth worst record (and increased their lottery odds by a percentage point) with a regulation loss in their season finale on Thursday, but they erased a two-goal deficit to push it to overtime and thus earning a point. In OT, they lost 5-4 to the New Jersey Devils.

In the upcoming draft lottery in May (date to be announced), the B’s have an 8.5% chance to win the first pick, an 8.6% chance to get the second overall pick, a 0.3% chance for the third pick, a 24.5% chance to stay at the fifth pick, a 44% chance for the sixth pick and 14.2% chance to fall to the seventh pick.

Most draft observers have Erie (OHL) defenseman Matthew Shaefer as the prize of the draft with Saginaw (OHL) center Michael Misa expected to go second.

After that, there are a handful of players that could go next, depending on the team’s needs and likes, among them Moncton (QMJHL) center Caleb Desnoyers, Boston College center James Hagens, Brampton (OHL) right wing Porter Martone and Djurgarden (Swe) center Anton Frondell.
