Clemson lands four-star OT Adam Guthrie
Clemson just added another good one in the trenches.
That’s because Ohio four-star offensive tackle Adam Guthrie announced his commitment to the program. Guthrie committed while on a multi-day unofficial visit to Clemson. The Ohio native had official visits set to Clemson, Penn State and Ohio State. Those others are canceled now and he’lll focus on the Tigers and helping peer recruit.
Guthrie is the sixth commit of the 2026 class for the Tigers and second offensive lineman joining Kansas native Braden Wilmes.
WHAT GUTHRIE MEANS TO CLEMSON
True tackle prospects are very hard to come by in college football. Guthrie gives the Tigers a very good one with high upside. But since he’s the second Midwest tackle to join the class that means more. Being able to dip into the Midwest and beat out other big-time programs for prospects is huge for coach Dabo Swinney and his staff. The Tigers have always recruited their region well but flexing the muscles outside the region shows a new approach that is paying off.
Landing Guthrie also shows the impact of offensive line coach Matt Luke. Guthrie and Luke built a strong relationship over the course of this recruitment. In part because Luke made it clear from the beginning that Guthrie was a priority long before the in-state Buckeyes showed serious interest in the Ohio native.
WHAT GUTHRIE BRINGS TO THE TIGERS
Standing at 6-foot-6, 292-pounds, Guthrie is not slight by any means. But he’s still got plenty of room to add muscle mass to his frame. He could easily carry 300+ pounds and not lose his agility and flexibility. That ability to bend and move is what makes him a good option as a true tackle prospect. You can also see his athletic ability on the basketball court where he mans the post down low.
Guthrie has long arms that allow him to engage with potential pass rushers and keep them at bay. As he moves into college, he’ll have to get used to a significant step up in competition and game speed. Once he makes that adjustment I can see him being a multi-year starter for the Tigers.
