2 charged in connection with fatal Dorchester shooting

Two people are facing charges in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 37-year-old man Monday night in Dorchester. 

Darius Powell, 25, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Daiquan Miller, 25, of Dorchester were arraigned Tuesday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device. 

Both Powell and Miller pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to court records.

Boston police said officers responded to the area of 114 Devon St. on Monday around 10:24 p.m. for a ShotSpotter activation. At the scene, they found a victim, identified as Keith Cousin, 37, of Bayonne, New Jersey, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Cousin was pronounced dead at the scene. 

“Detectives from B-2 immediately began to view cameras in the area in attempts to locate a possible suspect,” police said in a statement. “Detectives broadcast a description of two suspects and their direction of flight to officers in the street.”

Two responding officers saw two people leaving an alley near 270 Columbia Road, police said. When the officers approached the pair, later identified by police as Powell and Miller, they allegedly ran from the area. 

“A foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to stop both individuals,” police said. 

Investigators found two guns in the area where Powell and Miller were running, according to police. The two men were arrested and charged.

Both Powell and Miller were ordered held Tuesday without bail on dangerousness and will return to court for a hearing on Dec. 17.
