Men wearing white jeans? Celtics tunnel look settles the debate.

Stepping out in an all-white look, Jaylen Brown makes the case in a spotless tunnel fit.

Should men wear white jeans

The smile-cracking question popped up in the inboxes last week of New York Times style readers and gained traction within some social media circles that care about this sort of thing.

Last week, the newspaper’s fashion critic wrote about the daring style choice — not because it’s winter, but because, she suggested, white jeans evoke stereotypes and archetypes that don’t universally resonate with men, particularly American men (or so her commentary implied).

The column didn’t fully answer the question but offered sage advice for those considering slipping into a pair of something white: “Whatever you decide, remember there’s only one universal rule when it comes to white jeans: Cleanliness is next to, if not godliness, pretty much everything else.”

Fast forward to the Celtics’ Wednesday night’s victory against the Blazers, 128-118. Just before tipoff, the Celtics posted a tunnel fashion image captioned, “Fit so clean.”

Jaylen Brown did not wear white jeans, per se, but he stepped onto the “JetBlue runway” in a head-to-toe white-forward look with varying shades of the bright neutral.

In his style choice, Brown loudly answered the question that the column left up to readers: Yes! Men should wear white jeans and pants.

Brown wore his spotless white ensemble with confidence.

On his head, an ecru beanie that perfectly matched the outerwear, which had the sleek, not-too-puffy silhouette characteristic of the 741 line — designed with high performance insulation without excessive bulk, setting the coat apart from popular styles that lean into exaggerated puffiness or ribbed seams (like North Face or Moncler).

In a cheeky camera moment, Brown pulled back his coat to reveal a crisp top from the “White Noise” collection first unveiled during the exclusive 741 launch party at Boston’s Museum of Science in February.

Keeping the color theme going on the parquet as the team suited up in white uniforms, he started the game in white sneakers before switching into the Black Moon Rovers, twinning with Jordan Walsh.

With spring and summer around the corner, we’ll see if more men take the plunge into any of the available variations of white jeans, or if the high-risk, high-reward fashion choice remains in select style circles.
